In total, 29 mental health centres are to be set up across the country under the initiative, which is to run until 2021.

The centres are expected to provide speedy assistance to people undergoing a mental health crisis.

Professor Janusz Heitzman, director of the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw, said that such patients currently have to wait months before being able to see a psychiatrist under Poland’s public health care system.

The new centres are to provide services to over 3 million people. Around PLN 40 million (USD 10.8m, EUR 9.3m) has been allocated for the programme until the end of this year, the PAP news agency reported.
